Ucan Grow (UCG) was founded by Steve Carver and Mary Parr, who have a combined 50 years of experience in impact programmes, farming, and contract farming. UCG focuses on rural agro-industrial development, increasing the productivity and income of small-scale farmers, and creating new jobs in expanding segments of the food supply and value chains. Our mission is to move families “from poverty to prosperity”. We develop a shared value vertical supply chain for high-value agricultural production systems.
The primary goal of UCG is to empower and enable rural subsistence farmers to become successful agripreneurs by connecting them from “Seed to Label” into the mainstream local and export markets. We accomplish this by utilising the 4M model of micro-learning, micro-jobs, micro-rewards, and micro-finance.This model provides a holistic approach to establishing collectives of small growers that creates economic scale to source primary inputs, supports experienced farmers, and thus provides fresh produce into formal supply chains. UCG also introduces vegetable crops and animal husbandry to help with food security and childhood nutrition in rural areas, and builds strong frameworks for long-term livelihood creation.
UCG’s approach to achieving our goals includes a structured contract farming and beneficiation participation model that guarantees off-take agreements to power win-win market linkages that mitigate risk and provide micro-finance to smallholder farmers. We bring smallholder farmers into a larger programme that is linked to out-grower programmes with existing farms in the surrounding area.
These programmes unlock buying and selling power, and create shared access to infrastructure. UCG employs cutting-edge technological solutions to connect individual farmers into a functioning cooperative, with links to markets, and to capacity and skill development. We also provide hands-on training and ongoing field agent farmer mentoring to build capacity and establish a self-sustaining and self-sufficient local economy.
We provide data-driven impact monitoring that educates, motivates, and incentiviszes people to take the first step towards prosperity.
Individuals, their families, and communities can become agri-preneurial assets to the country as a result of UCG’s personal ownership and empowered mindset.
